The Rainbow Dinner Party - October 1980

The Rainbow Dinner Party took place at the Blackie on Sunday 5th October 1980. This was the second Rainbow evening, the first was a celebration at the end of installing the Inner City Rainbows. 

The 1980 Dinner Party was not only  part of our rainbow themed events, it was also one of the Blackie‚Äôs Pleasant Sunday Evenings. These were social evenings for a small number of guests (adults and young people) built around food, entertainment and activity.

The Dinner Party was planned around the 6 colours of the rainbow used in all the Blackie's Rainbow Projects - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. .These colours were repeated in the decorations, lights and food.

People feasted on a range of cooked and raw saladssalads - tomatoes and radishes (red), peppers and tomatoes (orange), yellow courgettes with saffron (yellow), lettuces, cucumber, pepers etal (green), potato salad (blue), red cabbage (purple.  Fruit apples and berries (red) oranges and apricots (orange), bananas, grapefruit adn melon (yellow), grapes, limes, & pears (green), blueberries, damsons & plums (blue) grapes, black berries and black currants (violet).  There was also a rainbow of cup cakes  and a ginat rainbow cake.

The Rainbow Dinner Party had 24 guests. Judy Bates (now Gough) talked about her recent visit to Poland, looking at the differences between the rainbow drawings produced on the streets of Gdansk and those produced in Liverpool.
