We ran an International Work Camp every summer and people came from as far a field as Japan, Africa and America, but the majority came from Europe. Some came for two weeks and some for several months. Many people started as volunteers and became members of staff - indeed in the early days this was the way usual way of joining the staff..

The volunteers joined in all aspects of the work at the Blackie from running the Summer Playscheme to taking part in performances. The skills they brought and the time they spent with us has been essential to the development of The Blackie and we would like to thank them for this.

Their visits also resulted in friendships, marriages and children.

The following pages list all volunters alpabetically by first name BUT when the capital programme resumed in 2004 we put all documents not immediately in use into store - this generally meant that record books and diaries were put in labelled and sealed boxes to safeguard the contents from dust, etc, during the rebuilding works.

We are now in the process of opening these dozens of boxes. However, we still cannot locate the record books kept of volunteers. We have put together the list of volunteers from files of correspondence rather than record books - and from memories. We will add to the list once the books are re-discovered. And, if you know any missing names, please contact us. We are also happy to add dates and any bried comments to the list if peopple want to e-mail them to us.  we hope finally to ahve photgraphs!
