Sakoba - African Dance Drama - 1990/93/94/95
Sakoba was founded in 1987 by Bode Lawal (dancer and choreographer) and Ola Adeniran (musician and writer).  Sakoba is Yoruba for 'new dawn''  or 'new beginnings'.  The name reflects the Compnay's commitment to creating new work in Briatin drawing on traditional African sources, developing character and creativity  within African dance in the UK and promoting the tradition of story telling theatre. Sally Morris
Sally Morris came to work at Blackie in 1971 and, apart from a year off to do a film course, remained until 2012. Sadly for the Black-E, her partner Kevin, and all her family and friends she died in May 2012. At the bottom of this page you will find a slide show which was created for her funeral. Edward Murphy OBE
Ed Murphy friend, supporter, volunteer and Chair of the Trustees from   ?? to his death in October 2016. As can be seen from the obituary below much of Ed's life took place in meetings and offices but reviewing our Photographic Archive it can be seen that he took part in or attended numerous events at the Blackie, particularly in the days when his work load was less.
